2012 Work meets NFT

In 2012, in the then-unfamiliar city of Berlin, I was searching for a way to sustain my life through music and movement. Specifically, for three months from July to September of that year, I attempted a new form of work, driven by the rhythms of improvised music and Korean shamanic dance performed at various venues throughout Berlin. I recorded the process of my breathing and recovery on paper—splashing acrylic paint and capturing my physical actions with my feet. It was a daily ritual of "painting with the body." These 100 action paintings became the foundation of the archive titled Project 4 2[sai:] 2012.

Thirteen years later, these records have been reborn as the 'Project-4-2-sai-2012' series.

To create this collection, I revisited those 100 original moments. I allowed a random algorithm to crop and rearrange the fragments into 500 new possibilities. From that chaotic pool, I personally hand-picked 30 pieces that felt most alive today.

Born from raw, physical energy, each piece allows every viewer to discover something different. Within the abstract layers, you may quietly encounter various faces—human, animal, or perhaps phantom-like figures. You might even discover unexpected gazes and expressions emerging from the contrast of forms and colors.

These are not just digital files; they are echoes of a 13-year journey that began in a Berlin summer and is now consistently preserved and exhibited at the Maeng Museum in Kreuzberg.

2012년 제게 낯설고 새로웠던 베를린이라는 도시에서 저는 음악과 움직임을 통해 삶을 지탱할 방법을 찾고 있었습니다.

특히 그 해 7월부터 9월까지 세 달 동안, 저는 베를린 곳곳의 다양한 장소에서 울려 퍼지던 즉흥 음악과 한국 샤머니즘 무용의 리듬으로 새로운 작업을 시도했습니다. 제 호흡과 회복의 과정을 종이 위에 아크릴 물감을 뿌리고 동작을 하면서 발로 기록했습니다. 그것은 '몸으로 그리는 그림'이라는 매일의 의식이었습니다. 그렇게 탄생한 100점의 액션 페인팅은 Project 4 2[sai:] 2012 라는 아카이브가 되었습니다.

13년이 지난 지금, 이 기록들은 ‘Project-4-2-sai-2012' 시리즈로 다시 태어났습니다.

이 컬렉션을 위해 저는 2012년의 그 100가지 순간들을 다시 꺼냈습니다. 랜덤 알고리즘을 통해 그 파편들을 500개의 새로운 가능성으로 재구성했고, 그 혼돈의 풀(pool) 속에서 오늘날 가장 생생하게 다가오는 30점의 작품을 직접 선택하였습니다.

이 30점의 작품이 가진 매력은 '파레이돌리아(Pareidolia 착시 현상)'에 있습니다. 무작위한 패턴 속에서 의미 있는 형상을 찾아내는 우리 마음의 작용이죠. 가공되지 않은 신체적 에너지에서 탄생했기 때문에 보는 사람마다 각기 다른 것을 발견할 수 있을 겁니다. 추상적인 층위 사이에서 사람이나 동물의 얼굴, 혹은 유령 같은 형상을 담담히 마주하게 될 수도 있습니다. 때로는 형상과 색채의 대비 속에서 나타나는 예기치 못한 시선이나 눈빛을 발견하게 될지도 모릅니다.

이것은 단순한 디지털 파일이 아닙니다. 베를린의 여름에서 시작되어 현재 크로이츠베르크의 '맹 뮤지엄(Maeng Museum)'에 꾸준히 보존되어 전시되고 있는, 13년에 걸친 여정의 메아리입니다.
